Wiping down the counters in the kitchen, the contractor is double-checking over the house as bright sunshine pours in through the windows, and he taps an anxious song out on the counters, cabinets, and everything he touches. After spending two days setting up little traps and filling any hole he could find in the house to dissuade the fur beetle infestation to the best of his abilities, he is pretty sure he got everything covered. He better have. The living room where he slept is still a mess, but the areas he renovated are in tip-top shape. Whipping his cloth over his shoulders, the contractor opens all cabinets, makes sure there is no residue dust from installation, and checks over the bathrooms where thick white lines of caulk are all now perfectly dried where he previously

Nothing explicit. “Hi, is this Mr. Goldman? Yes, this is Mr. Renon’s contractor, Nick Forrester.” Nick sits outside on the front steps as a storm rolls in from the distance. The trees around the property bend and a warm wind flips the leaves. His body is covered in cuts and bruises. His face is swelling, and one eye has swollen shut. “Yes, I was told to let you know the house’s showing tomorrow is going to be postponed. We have some last-minute renovations to finish up. Can we reschedule in two weeks?” Nick dabs his bleeding knuckles on his pants. “Okay, I’ll see you then. Thanks.” Hanging up, Nick dials another number, and it rings until it ends at a voicemail. “Hey, man. It’s me. I just got word from the boss that there is money to rehire everyone and finish the project. Can

Remembered Eternity, ch. 37
Upon a Star: Remembered Eternity (incomplete) Chapter 37 by Yurixthewanderer and theunholyborn ------------------------------------------------------ Karyana tried her hardest to keep a distance between herself and her opponents while limiting her movements. Fighting with only a few hours of rest and a mouthful of water in her stomach against Melody who seemed well-rested but inexperienced in combat and a mind-numbed Xelnos whose movements were stiff and lacked strength was far from advantageous. In truth, Karyana was on the backfoot. Not only was she fighting two opponents in close-range combat who used different styles and weapons, but she did not want to harm either of them. If what she learned with her time with Sophia and the vision she had after leaving the Crystal Rose were true, then this fight was one to incapacitate them. Killing them was not an option. A wide axe swing stopped by Azuria's sword brought her back to focus. While Onyx's armor was likely durable enough to

Heaven's warriors 25. Epilogue Back in Parnassia
Returning to Parnassia had been somewhat a challenge. Not that I'd felt estranged to the place, not after living there for half a month and receiving training. I know the townlike gathering of structures, the people and the principles. There were even old friends there glad to see me, including my old 'schoolmates' Alizza, Carolian, Estaro, Anaxiaris... Not to mention Liia, who's life I'd saved. Even Naunria seemed to regard me with new eyes after my ordeals on Earth, not pretending for a moment that we had not been able to find common ground. It had felt strange to leave my earthly home in Diodor. The farm and Xenanthe. Then again, my stepsister might grouse for losing a hand at the farm, but in the end I knew she really wanted the place for herself. She might love me in her own rogue way, but she was never really ready to share the property or anything that came with it to me. She'd let me keep Sadie, to bring the horse with me. But her, together with my most personal belongings

Heaven's warriors 24. A crystal ball of death
Salome reached into her jacket pocket and brought out a crystal ball, which she placed in the snow. It didn't lay there idle for long, instead it soon began to glow with a cerise sheen and roll about on the ground, as smoke began to billow, molten snow, I guessed. Then there came a picture, using the smoke as a screen, and I recognized well the place, it was the Hall of Lanterns, the holiest place of the Parnassians. And the four of us soon saw it desecrated, as a shadow sneaked up upon a man praying and with a swift swing of a blade beheaded him. I head myself gasp as the head rolled off and building, dead eyes met my look. Then, my eyes darted over to where Thesmor and Ieonnatos were standing. I could see by the way they were poised that they were conferring telepathically with each other. "Why are you showing us this?" Ieonnatos asked angered. "Because," Salome began. "Right now, all over Parnassia as well as in the realm of the Principati, more than two dozen people are meeting
